Problem with variables that I didn't have in vestacp

I’m testing hestiacp which seems very good.
But when importing a backup from vestacp I encountered a problem.
when I access the site, the error 500 appears. Because I use the following code example:

<?php $foother='this is the year '.date(Y).'Welcome'; ?>

if you i delete ‘.date(Y).’ the error disappears and the page is displayed.
Could you explain to me why? Thanks

Check your weblog, without that its just guessing. /home/user/web/domain.tld/log
