It seems that the problem reported here is identical to the problem I reported. I too have switched from apache2+nginx to nginx only and have had no problems so far. Only since the update from 1.8.8 to 1.8.10 there were the problems. So it must have to do with a change between 1.8.8 and 1.8.10. Even if it may not look like it at first glance.
