Direct IP link to my site, without DNS changes

Hi there, first I just want to say that I am a new and happy HestiaCP user, but I am still facing some small issues to finish setting up my first HestiaCP on my new VPS.

How can I directly access a site installed on HestiaCP using the IP link, without the final domain DNS pointer?

I am asking because I have my live site running on my old VPS, so I will only change the DNS after testing the new installation on Hestia. Can I access it without changing the DNS?

Thanks

Use your hosts file.

Hi linkp, thank you very much for your clear and prompt response. Although this alternative works well, the problem is that in this case, I need to work on both sites while completing the migration, and using this approach is a bit counterintuitive. I will only have access to one site at a time, and I will need to modify the hosts file every time I switch between the sites to be edited. For this reason, I was wondering if Hestia could offer a more straightforward way to directly access the installed site without relying on DNS pointing. Do you know if there is a more practical alternative?

Since modern websites are dependent upon the host headers to serve from the correct virtual host, the short answer is no.

You might be able to use different web browsers by configuring one to use a SOCKS proxy with tunneled DNS.

It may also make sense to use an alternate placeholder name on the new site and update it to the real name when you are ready to cut over.

HI linkp thanks for your reply, Is is possible for me to simply enable this IP access feature, to my sites in my vps with Hestia? I am trying to do that using Sudo SSH commands and chatgpt support, but still not working. Thanks

What part of NO was unclear?

Sorry to bother you on a Sunday, I only asked again because I thought this might be configurable on my Hestia instance via ssh. But from your response, it seems like it’s simply not possible. Thanks again!
