I find them annoying as they put up a notification and when I take the time to look it is just a badge . They also clog up the list of interactions that I have on the forum when I click on my profile icon.
Looking online it appears most people dont care. those that do care are split evenly. Here is how to get rid of them if you, the admin of this forum, desire 
You can disable badges, and remove them from the users summary page, by unchecking the setting enable badges.
I just added a link to a post and immediately I got a notification bubble on my profile icon. It was just a badge congratulating me for posting a link in a post . LOL
