hi
I am trying to connect to my server via VNC with no luck
Is there a possibility that somehow this service is blocked by iptables or smth?
Why? Did you install a desktop environment on your server?
Yes it is, if you installed Hestia and you also installed a VNC server, you must open the ports used by your VNC server, usually 5900-59xx for remote client connections, and 5800-58xx for web browser connections.
But if you didn’t install a desktop environment you only need ssh and a browser to connect to Hestia Web UI.
If you did install a desktop environment, which would be unusual and normally unnecessary, you would do well to tunnel the VNC connection over SSH rather than expose it to the internet without encryption. It is also possible to configue VNC to use TLS, but normally there is no reason to have a desktop environment on a webserver.
I did not install it.
My hosting provider has this opportunity.
It gave me different ip:port (not the same as server) and i was not able to connect.
So I am trying to understand if it can be server side configuration issue.
If not. I will create ticket for them.
Ok,then they will use it as a way to access to your server directly with no need to use ssh. I use proxmox and it also has noVNC
to access the servers as a last resort but I don’t need to open any port for this to work.
If it doesn’t work, ask them what are the requirements to use it and if you need to do something on your server side, like opening ports, etc.
