Installing with a remote mySQL server

Hello, I want to install Hestia as a website and DNS server on one machine, but I have a remote mySQL server to which I’ll be using as a remote DB server for my hosted websites. The remote DB server is separate, and I’m not using Hestia to manage that server, just good 'ol command line.

Just to be sure, I run the install script WITHOUT specifying to install mySQL 8, correct? Do I need to install MariaDB for anything that Hestia needs?

Thank you!

You can specify ‘no’ to both. You simply won’t have MySQL/MariaDB present. I believe PhpMyAdmin and the control panel section for it will not be present/usable in HestiaCP at all. For your various hosting needs; you’ll need to supply the IP/domain of the remote MySQL server; i.e. wp-config.php for WordPress would need to have it’s DB_HOST filled out with the location of the database server.

Thanks Steveorevo. Yes, that’s what I intend to do…set the DB server to the IP of the DB server, rather than “localhost”. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t need mySQL or MariaDB for HestiaCP to function. Thanks again!

It probally doesn’t install phpmyadmin but in the theorie it should be possible to host phpmadmin on “hestia” with link in the config files. We might need to update it…

Webmail does currently require it … Same with phpmyadmin…
