SMTP error 421 failed to add recipient

Hello, after new install

NAME=“Ubuntu”
VERSION=“20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa)”
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian

  • HestiaCP

When I try to send Email I get Error:
SMTP Error (421): failed to add recipient „[email protected]“ (Unexpected failure, please try later).

/var/log/exim4/mainlog returns:
2022-01-17 19:51:53 Taint mismatch, string_vformat: lsearch_open 35

Any Ideas what could be wrong? If You need any other info to debug just ask :slight_smile: Thanks in advance.

Please post the /etc/exim4/exim.template.conf

I can’t find /etc/exim4/exim.template.conf
But there is /etc/exim4/exim4.template.conf

What happens when you run exim4 -Bv

root@7uodegos:/etc/exim4# exim4 -Bv
Exim is a Mail Transfer Agent. It is normally called by Mail User Agents,
not directly from a shell command line. Options and/or arguments control
what it does when called. For a list of options, see the Exim documentation.

There is one problem with receiving mail too.
If I send test mail from Gmail acc I wont receive it.
If I send mail from Contact form on same domain there is no problems.

That why I wanted to know what version it is

And

exim -bV should provide it

Any documentation at hestiacp how to properly downgrade or upgrade?

Downgrades arent supported, for upgrades just trigger apt update && apt upgrade.

Eris version is higher then my- 4.93, how did you upgrade to that

This depends on your OS and the available version on the related repository. Hestia doesnt provide any exim packages.

I am using Debian 11 as test server.

For Ubuntu 20.04 the last version is

Exim version 4.93 #3 built 28-Apr-2021 13:19:17

For whom it may concern: I have found a solution to this bug and posted it here: Exim4 mail sending issue

In short: go to the /etc/exim4/domains/(your domain name) directory and remove/rename files named ip and fwd_only
