Unable to Access SSH & HestiaCP – Websites & Mail Still Work

Good evening,

I’m experiencing a strange issue. A few days ago, I was able to connect via SSH (port 22) and access the HestiaCP panel (port 8083) without any problems. I even received an email confirming that an update was applied. However, now I can no longer connect to either SSH or HestiaCP.

Thinking it might be Fail2Ban blocking me, I tried:

  • Using different computers and networks
  • Connecting via VPN
  • Rebooting the server from my hosting provider’s control panel

None of these worked.

What’s even stranger is that my websites and Roundcube (webmail) are working fine, which suggests that only SSH and HestiaCP are affected.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try next?

Thanks in advance!

Some providers allow to acces the server via IPMI or Console. Try that If that is possible.

Any errors when you try to connect?

When I try to connect via SSH, there are no error messages — it just keeps “loading” indefinitely.
I don’t even get a “Connection refused” message or any other response.
Via Control Panel from where I rent the server, I do not have the option to access a “Console”.

The same happens with the HestiaCP panel, when I try using the Hestia panel it gets me

This site can’t be reached
panel.MYDOMAIN.com refused to connect.
Try:

Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

You didnt undestand what @eris was trying to say. Go to your VPS provider and ask for a Direct Console Access.

As if you were phisically in the server room with a screen and a keyboard. That way you dont have to connect via ssh.

I fixed that now. I managed to enter, and now what?

Well. Now that you are in, this issue is resolved.

You asked us for help. Because you needed to get in via SSH. I suppose you want to do sysadmin stuff.

Now you are in, do your sysadmin stuff or hire one.

I can’t help if you don’t tell me what you want to do.

Maybe ChatGPT can assist you with the commands you need.

/usr/local/hestia/bin/v-list-firewall-ban | grep your ip

And if banned delete it …

/usr/local/hestia/bin/v-list-firewall-ban ip CHAIN

Probably it is HESTIA SSH or RECIDIVE
