Upgrading packages in ubuntu manually or wait for hestiacp update

Hi, i have below list of packages available for upgrade if i update them does it effect my hestiacp.

Should i upgrade them manually or these will be automatically updated by next hestiacp update?

i am afraid if any of the below package have vulnerability that will put my server at risk.

is there any way i can test the upgrade before implementing actually on the live server

Any help is appreciated.

Those can be updated as long you don’t upgrade to 24.04

so all i do is

apt update
apt upgrade

Yes that is fine…

Sometimes it ask do you want to overwrite the config…

And then the answer should be No / Keep current version

I think the best way to accomplish this is to have a VM with “similar” settings but without any important data for you. Then you can test the upgrades there before doing it on the production server.

You could have a local VM on your desktop machine (using any available virtualization software). However, the best way would be to have that VM running in a network environment as similar as possible to your production VM. So, the ideal approach is to have a second VM with the same hosting provider in the same data center and with the same “hardware features.” You probably only need the minimum storage space and possibly less CPU, but be careful about the RAM because if it’s too small, execution problems may arise on the software/OS.

Even better, for example, my VM provider allows me to put the VM in standby for as long as I need, and they only bill me for the storage space! :sunglasses: So it’s quite affordable.

Furthermore, I know that what I will say now is quite typical, but it’s necessary: it always has a lot of potential value (safety) to be able to take a snapshot (or backup) of your VM just before making any configuration changes on your server, especially when updating/upgrading. In this sense, it’s also very valuable if your VM provider allows you to easily restore your snapshot to the same VM if something goes very wrong with the upgrading process.
