Want advice as a new

Hello there,

I am a engineer with a strong interest in server management & open source technologies. I enjoy working with tools like HestiaCP to streamline server operations & improve efficiency. I join this community for learn, share insights & collaborate with other new and old members of this community.

There are any advice for new member please share with me.

Thank you.

Hi and welcome, well I considered myself kind of a new member too, have less than 1 year with Hestia, coming from a shared reseller hosting with cPanel.

Well after this kind of introduction here are like the advices I can share from my experience:

  • Test a lot: Get either a free VPS like Oracle free tier, your own paid VPS, virtualmachines, proxmox, local machines, what ever you can and made a lot of different install combinations, choose and test from all possibilities the installer offers (like apache + nginx or nginx only), find the limits, break it and reinstall it again.
  • Avoid comparing it with other panels: There are a lot of flavors out there, free, paid, open source, each panel has their pros and cons, like many other people here of course I did comparation between Hestia and cPanel, you will see there is a big difference between them, there are a lot of tools on cPanel that until today I still have no idea of them and Hestia made me to manage all in a simple way, even for end users/customers will be really easy to use.
  • Search a lot: For anything you need, surf the web, you either Google it or just search on this forum, you will find a lot of issues and how to resolve them, and a lot of configurations and so, a lot of great people that will help with their knowledge. Sometimes could be hard to find a topic and new one needs to be created because we try to explain issues or so in our own way, but you will found an answer.
  • Create your own check list: Being a newee is not easy, after you test a lot I recommend to create your own list of the steps you will follow everytime you install it, I have my own steps to config my Ubuntu server before install Hestia and have also my own list to config are a must for me after installing.
  • Backups: This can be a thing is ALWAYS mentioned, but specially in production servers, make a snapshot before any changes, download Hestia Backups and/or make them available on a external server, any minimal change could break everything.

Finally, enjoy the journey, there is a lot of test and learn every day with HestiaCP
