I know there is already an old forum but it’s closed. And this is a feature which is been actively looked for.
We need a system in hestiacp to maintain weekly and monthly backups along with daily backup.
I host Wordpress websites and they keep on getting hacked. It’s impossible for me to notice them the same day they’re hacked. It usually comes to my notice after few days when client complains , and at that time the only backup I have is the hacked one sadly.
I hope you admit that this feature is a crucial one and the support in upcoming version.
I don’t think this should be a function of hestiacp.
Hestiacp provides a backup function, which is crucial and good. After the (daily) backup is made by hestiacp, it is up to the sysadmin to do whatever they want to those backups.
I recommend moving these backupfiles to at least two different systems, and implement a rotating strategy (weekly, monthly, yearly, whatever fits you) on those systems.
As for your websites keep getting hacked, fixing that should be your priority number 1. Keeping hosting safe costs time and knowledge but is very much needed, and it can be done, also with wordpress. It is a responsibility you have to your clients, and to the internet.
You may want to consider running a good backup plugin in the WordPress sites. Use rotating off site backups with a retention policy like @maurice described.
Evaluating your security practices is probably also in order. Keep sites and plugins updated. Requiring complex passwords and multifactor authentication are long standing best practices worth enforcing.
Using systemwide backups make more sense then having to install backup plugin for every Wordpress site.
Can’t we have something like Cpanel? Weekly backups.
I want a easy to restore backup facility as well. If I manually write a corn job to move backup to another folder weekly. I would not have proper database of backups in hestia UI. Also for restoring I have to manually migrate it back to hestiacp backup folder…I don’t know things are becoming quite manual at this point. The purpose of using control panels like hestia is to automate such basic things which hestia already does have , but doesn’t support weekly feature. It should be crucial to implement.
